  • THE HOUSE OF TEN KINGDOMS

    Contrast; Featureless versus Pure pristine.

Still reading this at the moment so can't quite tell if it Fantasy?Science Fiction or otherwise. The short bursts of well-crafted sentences move the story along with it's steady flow of illuminating adjectives. Looking forward to continuing a very educative read.

  • Creeping into the Light

    Really Creeping into the Light!

Vivid and imaginative, especially the first story. The plot is fresh, original but still written with simplicity, The publisher's character, breasts, rejection, agents and boxer shorts is a highly hilarious mix that turns downright scary. A real electrifying read, anytime.

  • CompletelyNovel.com Launch Anthology

    A Completely Different Anthology.

I finally wrestled one away from my son who his it after naming the fish averting away from the others 'Erdis' his pet. This book is reckless, spicy and bonkers with a hint of mother's advice. How responsible is that?! It explores the four waal of the writing world - The End of discovery, The Hman Dominoe effect, dream manipulation and completely losing it. I gave it a five star rating, the perfect pick-me -up for any day at a non-existent price.

  • The Smugglers' Caves

    The Smugglers' Caves.

You know the passage about Van Gogh,(pg no.!!)It has a near-ethereal message in that choice of two landscapes. It's really deep, I could almost touch the message there... Need to save some for tomorrow... can't put it down... Love the theme. It's like looking at a distant picture from afar and as you get closer, the picture gets bigger. It's really nice when the book doubles as Art. Five star rating.

  • Pride and Prejudice

    The Winning Trait

What can I say about Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice? Where I grew up, it was hard to come by books of this nature and still is, ie Romantic fictions that have (a whole neighbourhood) sorting out issues without overwhelming the reader, and still get to go up the aisle. I happened to read a lot of versions of this, simplified, shortened, essays, exam notes so it's a shame I never got to do English Lit. (I did Geography instead.) Although Liz Bennet is known as 'handsome,' 'prudent' and 'witty' there's something else that makes her charcter so charming and that's what I set out to discover. Mr. Darcy seemed to have lost his parents quite early but in a batman's style of growing up, had butlers, servants, a housekeeper and maids assist him in looking after his father's massive estate while he grew up, so it had to be something special, an irresistible trait that drew him off the sidelines and onto centre stage, also dismantling all his stuck-up one-liners. Like where he stared ...What can I say about Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice? Like where he stared at her for an excruciatingly long time only to ask of her parents afterwards. Keira Knightley's Liz B. doesn't work. she plays the young, talkative and sharp witted card. On the other hand, 'Lizzie has something more of a quickness than her sisters.' like her father said might well mean maturity. Jennifer Ehle's Liz B. has a whole load of that and that is why the BBC's version continues to be a bestseller. The winning trait was maturity... (more)

  • Still Thinking of You

    The Other Foot.

I never really had the experience of choosing my own books as teachers and friends were always giving me one or recommending one but this one beckoned to me like an old friend from the shelves of the bookstore the first time I walked into one on my own and I wasn't disappointed. It answers the first questions girls often ask about boys after a first heartbreak but instead of following the woman's view as in most of the books I had read, she crossed over and did some man research (Genius). Being someone who would normally read the woman's view and try to imagine what the other team were thinking, I was blown away by the honesty and simplicity of it and most of my teenage paranoia was disipated. The beginning was great and the ending was believable and great too and I learnt one great lesson; maybe I should cut down on the amount of Fairy tales I read...
