CN Central: PDF/X files not accepted

I am trying to upload a manuscript file. I have spent considerable time typesetting the book in Adobe InDesign. I have exported the file as a PDF/X 1a:2001 and PDF/X 1a:2003 directly from InDesign. I have also created an Acrobat 9 version of the file from InDesign and then used Acrobat professional to convert it to PDF/X and PDF/A file.
Every attempt I make has failed miserably and I receive the message “The PDF uploaded is not a PDF/A or PDF/X document, please save your PDF to one of these formats or supply a MS Word document.”
Is there some secret to ensuring that what Adobe thinks is a properly formatted PDF is accepted for conversion?
