About me

I started writing while teaching, just as the first PC’s came on the market, and eventually had enough courage to give up the day job – hundreds of ‘magazine’ short stories, serials and travel-related and general interest features published, and also a novel (‘Tiger Country’) and a book for beginner writers, ‘How to Turn Your Holidays into Popular Fiction’). I’ve got 2 more pet novel projects on the go, but there’s no real interest out there. Both are ‘popular’ rather than literary.
I believe many readers (especially a large swathe of the huge women’s market) are not being catered for by mainstream publishers who seem to think what is needed is more sex and violence. My fiction niche is ‘romance with an edge of exotic adventure’ involving ordinary people in challenging circumstances, in believable relationships rather than unrealistic ones. Call me old-fashioned. I probably am.

At the mo I'm proof reading my new book ''Travelling Light' a selection of travel-themed short stories and travel features, so rather pushed for time, but will look at yours and add reviews here and Amazon, possibly over the weekend - and that's a promise, if you'd like to do the same for 'The Wine is Red' on here, and then Amazon. We travelling types should stick together. (more)

Have you thought about getting it onto Amazon Kindle, so that people can read a sample of it on their own PC (once they've got the app. sorted out?) I'd be happy to review yours if you'd like to do the same for 'The Wine is Red' on Com Nov - search under Kate Nivison rather than the title. If you look on Amazon.co.uk, again under Author not Title, you'll see my 'How to Turn your Holidays into Popular Fiction' (for beginners) is available for practically nothing. Might it be useful to you? Seems we have the same interests. Cheers, Kate (more)

Gill spent a week or two on an educational cruse when at school though...I went fishing locally! However, we did have our own boat for a number of years, a 17 ft job. We spent many very happy hours boating both locally and in West Wakes. As you say things that get buried can surprise people...and that takes me to the tale of Noah's Ark, a geological anomaly thought to be a large vessel that was buried a couple of hundred years before the time of Christ via earth tremor and only revealed again via the same natural methodology in the 1950s, this has only been confirmed for what it in fact is via evidence in my work although many believe that it is the real thing... Such is life All the best Harry (more)

Reminds me of the 'Neolithic bicycle' found in Grimes Graves flint mines - amazing what a bit of illegal dumping and soil slumping can do to the unwary. Cheers, Kate (I'm up to my neck in the murk around the Queen of Sheba story for some talks I'm giving on a cruise ship daring the pirate-infested waters for 2 weeks between Mumbai and Aqaba from March 2nd. So if I go quiet for a while, please arrange a gun boat or something . . . (more)

After digging to a depth of 10 metres last year, Russian Archaeologists found traces of copper wire dating back 1000 years, and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network one thousand years ago. So, not to be outdone, in the weeks that followed, American archaeologists dug 20 metres and headlines in the US papers read: (more)

Howeve...Hi Kate My method is a small business card with the url printed beneath the book titles. However, most of the interest has been from postings on historically orientated websites. I am glad you are interested in my subject matter and would appreciate an opinion when you have time to read my work...a long process...be warned!500pp plus for each but loads of info not seen elsewhere. Old fashioned? realistic...it is the publishers who get it all wrong. In my case they flooded the market with rubbishy fiction under the generic term of history. Consequently the market became inundated with such crap [excuse the expression but it fits too much that has been in print]and the reading public backed off. Consequently ALL history is currently taking a bashing and little gets through. My work in any case would be regarded as'fringe' as the subject matter is not a part of any mainstream study but nonetheless, while original in thinking, is replicable [more than can be said for some historical theories] and valid. Stick with what you feel is right and to hell with the world... That's one hell of a big worm you are are holding..slow worms sufficient for me thanks! I like to watch such creatures but so far have failed to photograph one as our old friend Sod dictated in his Law that they are not around when I have a camera to hand! All the best Harry (more)
