About me

I work as a consultant in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia in Manchester. I am married with 3 kids who keep the days and weekends busy and fun. I write mainly in the late evening and have mainly being focusing on fantasy and YA/MG sci-fi.
My first book, previously on CN, has been taken up by a US indie publisher called Fantasy Island Book publishing and will be available as an e-book and print book through them. My experience with self-publshing through CN has been very positive and I plan to remain on the site in order to publish other work, write reviews and look at others work.
My YA book is being considerd by a UK based publisher, so fingers crossed.

The other HOF books and a standalone novel I wrote are yet to be published self or otherwise, though they exist completed. I'm out of uni and in fulltime work now, as you can appreciate it limits the time available to write! (more) and won+3

I'd actually forgotten I'd put HOF on here and am not sure when your review is dated, so apologies if this is a late thanks! Many of the points you brought up I have addressed in later edits, but it was good to see the areas I'd identified as being weaknesses were correct. I've moved onto other projects now despite having completed 3 of the 4 HOF books, but when I go back to re-editing the first book again (can never do enough editing, right?) I'll definitely be using your review. Thanks again. (more) and bagged+3

The first three books were compulsive and I'd never read anything like them in fantasy. But the fourth - and by that I mean Feast for Crows- was disappointing. He'd constrained by his chapter styles and that has meant the need to throw in more and more characters. You get the sense it's running away with him in places-like Jordan's Wheel of Time. So what probably could have been a well paced quartet is now stretched to seven books, the latest (Dance of..) having taken an age to write. Having said that I did enjoy it, mainly as it had my favourite characters in and his prose is still excellent (although getting a touch potty mouthed!). Look forward to your thoughts on it. If you like fantasy then I'd recommend Scott Lynch if you haven't read already. Just superb. Regards, Ross (more) and bagged+3
